The objective of the CORAL SHIPREP ship reporting system is to provide important protection for the fragile environment of the Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument and its cultural resources.  As importantly, given the obstacles that make navigation hazardous in this area, this system will provide mariners with critical alerts and other important information to assist them in navigating safely through the area.  Furthermore, it will increase knowledge of ship movements and facilitate a timely response to any developing maritime emergencies.

This internationally adopted system became operational in May 1, 2008. Reporting requirements are available below. Entry and exit notifications are sent to the shore-based station via email to nwhi.notifications@noaa.gov.  In return, ships receive a message about the Monument and designated Areas To Be Avoided (ATBAs).
